Flores Island is found north of Tofino in Clayoquot Sound in Ahousaht territory and is one of the largest contiguous areas of old-growth forest left on Vancouver Island. The stunning 10 km walk along the Wild Side Trail travels up the Island’s beaches while dipping in and out of the amazing coastal rainforest, eventually reaching the blue waters of Cow Bay. Here, gray whales can be seen year-round and wolves, cougars, and bears cruise the beach at night.
In the spring of 2024, the establishment of a series of conservancies in Ahousaht and Tla-o-qui-aht territory was announced. The Ancient Forest Alliance is thrilled about this news and fully supports the project, which will protect some of the greatest remaining old-growth rainforests in Canada while helping to build conservation-based economies.
